Dubrovnik – Pearl of the Adriatic & a Gem of a find!

Dubrovnik is an amazing little city with a BIG heart! Its history, culture, food, drink, climate & people make this THE destination with the widest appeal!

Dubrovnik_narrative_1With a wild and dramatic history starting around the 6th century it has played a key role in east meets west – acting as mediator, host and diplomat to the Ottoman Empire, the Venetians, the French and Austrians.. Overcoming natural and manmade disasters to rise like a phoenix from the ashes to become one of the most beautiful holiday destinations now welcoming with open arms the 21st century conqueror… the knowing tourist!

Travel is a passion and certain destinations make a big impact and Dubrovnik has done just that on our recent visit…. It is a destination that words do no justice in describing.. From the first views of the rugged coastline with its islands and inlets to the coastal drive towards this medieval city.. crystal clear blue waters are broken by the lush green islands as you drive the winding coastal roads….

From its coastal resorts of Mlini and Cavtat to the Islands of Korcula, birthplace of Marco Polo and the beautiful coastal resorts along the Dubrovnik Riviera you just want to drink in the views savouring every moment of its beauty.. And then savour the spectacularly fresh fish, sweetest of local lamb and superb steaks all washed down with luscious local wines – where food miles are replaced with food metres and prices are remarkably low (some may┬ásay TOO low but don’t tell the waiters!)…

Dubrovnik_narrative_2Where else can you visit Kings Landing (GOT), the world’s first quarantine hospital & pharmacy, Napoleons fort and get lost in medieval streets and circuit the city walls

Throughout the year there are festivals and concerts in some magnificent settings – The Rectors Palace, the Lovrijenac Fort (the ultimate setting for Hamlet) and of course under the stars in this beautiful climate!

So from History to Fantasy, Classical to Clubbing or Gourmet to Sail-Away Dubrovnik really does have everything covered, and if all of that is too much then just sit back and relax on one of its many award winning beaches and do nothing…..
